PVREA Journeyman Lineman Austin Maier is packing his bags for Guatemala. As part of the volunteer “Energy Trails Team” Austin, along with nine other linemen, is spending nearly three weeks this month to bring electricity to the mountainous village of Sillab, Guatemala.
“I’m really looking forward to utilizing the skills in my trade to help families further their quality of life,” Austin commented. “It will be an adventure and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to turn on the lights for a small village.”
PVREA has been involved with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s philanthropic NRECA International Foundation by sending linemen to volunteer for the past couple of years. Volunteers from PVREA helped bring electricity to a different area in Guatemala last year, and to Haiti in 2017.
