Christmas brings many great things to mind. Happy memories of seasons past, good food (expanded waistlines!), gift giving, faith, and family. For us at PVREA, we always look forward to sharing our vibrant, outdoor Christmas lighting display. If you are like me, Christmas also brings about thoughts of giving back, spreading love, sharing joy or trying to save a buck or two to spend on others.
Perhaps you commit random acts of kindness, like buying a cup of coffee for the next person in line, or serving food to the hungry. Maybe you give your time or money to local, national or international charities. Or perhaps you simply try to embrace the season by showing gratitude and kindness to those around you.
However, as you share your own unique holiday spirit, know that we here at PVREA strive to share our spirit with you. We have our own way of giving back to our members. This year, we’re giving a multi-year gift to all our members – your electric rate will stay the same for 2018 and 2019. Do you have other expenses that won’t increase for two years?
It’s our job, as your co-op, to look out for you by controlling costs and keeping rates affordable. Here’s how we’ve accomplished no rate increase for two years while maintaining the financial stability of the co-op. We’ve worked to control costs by refinancing debt, which saved the co-op $13 million. We’ve made investments to improve operational efficiencies, such as installing smart meters and upgrading our substations, which cuts down on the cost for maintenance and operations, and related administrative costs.
Further, we have implemented technologies to improve internal processes, which saves time and as the adage goes, “time is money.” It’s our duty to you, our members, to look out for your best interest in every dollar we spend.
Additionally, we help you by providing energy efficiency tips and resources. Here’s just a few:
SmartHub: Our free, account app where you can pay your bill online, view energy use, outage history, service orders and much more.
Energy Assessments: We help members learn how their home can be more energy efficient.
Rebates: We offer cash rebates on appliances, ACs, heat pumps and geothermal systems, and LED lighting. Don’t forget to use your Ace Hardware LED lighting coupon that was in your November bill.
myLocal Solar: The community solar farm program helps low-to-moderate income families lower their electric bill, plus gives members an opportunity to be a part of solar energy.
Bill Payment Options: Save driving time by paying your bill online, in SmartHub, mail, or by phone at any time. You can still drop off your payment in our dropbox at any time.
Togetherwesave.com: An online tool through Touchstone Energy that has an interactive home energy adventure, videos, articles, and much more energy efficiency tips and tools to help you save.
When you use energy wisely and save money, the whole co-op membership saves money. We also help keep your family safe by providing electrical safety tips and demonstrations to the community – information that is especially important this time of year.
All this diligence results in keeping rates the same for the next two years. The “a penny saved is a penny earned,” motto is still alive today. I hope you see how much we care through the savings, benefits, and services we provide.
We recognize and understand we cannot thrive unless you thrive, so we do all we can to make sure we’re providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity. From all your friends at PVREA, we hope you have a memorable Christmas! And, before Christmas is over, be sure to check out our outdoor Christmas lighting display at the PVREA office.
